2016 Election Coverage
Welcome to the live blog for the 2016 United States elections. Here’s our thoughts and information as the election day progresses.
This has been the most consequential election of my lifetime and I feel like America has screwed up. I’m afraid as many are, but the beautiful thing about American’s is that we are resilient. We’ve been through worse times and got through it. For all the Hillary Clinton supporters out there, we are all in this together. Hillary will keep fighting for us, even as a private citizen as she has done all her life, through charity, through inspiration. To those that are afraid, I stand by you, and we will get through this together. I know I’ve poked fun at some of the Bernie Sanders supporters who have held out for some political revolution, but there may be some truth in their haste. For the sake of the progressive movement we will see some rough times, but midterms couldn’t come any sooner. I know the reaction right now is to boo, panic, hate, but in two years we need to vote. We as youth are the future of this country, and we may have just witnessed the Baby Boomers last stand through this populist movement with Donald Trump. Tonight was bad, but tomorrow the sun rises and we will get fired up to move onto the next challenge.
What makes this even more terrifying: Trump is going to get a Republican majority in BOTH the House and the Senate to work with when he takes office.
I’m shook. Good night America. It was nice knowing you.
In reality, President Obama might be tonight’s biggest loser.
Though disappointment and disgust are consuming me and I can barely articulate myself coherently after tonight’s shocking and, frankly, frightening developments, let’s make sure not to forget one thing: America is already great because of who we are and what defines us. What happened this evening? That doesn’t have to define us moving forward. It won’t define us moving forward. Our voices will continue to be heard, our revolution will continue to intensify, our bonds as compassionate human beings, as patriotic citizens of these United States will continue to strengthen. Keep fighting the good fight, my friends, be it at the federal level, the state level, or the local level. Don’t lose faith that we, as a collective unit, still possess what it takes to bring about real, tangible, positive change in our country, no matter who’s sitting in that Oval Office. Don’t let the majority suppress you or make you believe that you and your rights and your beliefs and your dreams matter any less. Tonight was a turning point in many ways, but you better believe that we can make it our turning point as well. Much love. And God bless America always.
