About Us

Alec and Darryn first met at the Saxon Suites basketball courts on UCLA’s campus when they were both sophomores in college. Alec hailed all the way from Kentucky, bringing his knowledge and love of basketball from the tradition of the Big Blue Nation. Darryn hailed from nearby Burbank, California with his passion for hoops stemming from his dedicated following of the NBA, growing up a Los Angeles Lakers fan before the trade of Shaquille O’Neal in 2004 altered the course of his basketball fandom forever and converted him into a permanent worshipper at the altar of the Miami Heat. Even though their hardwood skills paled in comparison to those of their idols (impossible half-court bank shots and gravity-defying up-and-unders from the low post notwithstanding), their love for the game did not. Using the tried and true mantra of “Ball is life” as their guiding light, Alec and Darryn bonded over this shared passion for sport and soon realized that they possessed a common interest in topics such as politics, pop culture, and current events as well.

The legend continued to grow as the dynamic duo spent more time balling out every chance they could get. Before their junior year, the Saxon courts were knocked down, but new and improved courts arose in their place at the neighboring Hitch Suites. This was where they would spend the balance of their time as upperclassmen at UCLA, honing their craft and baptizing the basketball non-believers everywhere. Their connection off the court was cemented with their first on-air appearance together when Alec guest-starred on Darryn’s weekly all-basketball show “Ball Don’t Lie” on UCLA Radio in their senior year. It was then that they fully discovered their unique chemistry and realized that they wanted to keep the conversation going about all of their favorite topics, even after their graduation from the university in June 2016. And thus, The Straight Outta Hitch Podcast was born.
